Large Animals

Dignified Cremations

Lawnswood offers the only entire horse cremation service in Western Australia.

This means that we can cremate any animal up to the size of the largest horse without any unpleasant procedures.

After building up a leading reputation for looking after domestic pets since 1984, we were only going to offer a large animal service if we could do it in a professional and dignified manner.

How does it work?

We will quote you a price to arrange the urgent collection of your large animal and confirm payment arrangements.

Upon our arrival we will assess the situation and explain the process to you in person, including how we will lift your horse onto our customised small truck which has a removable canopy. We will lift, not winch, your horse onto our vehicle with as much dignity as possible.

If opting for engraving, we will leave a form with you to complete in the following week. It is often best to take some time to get through the first few days before putting pen to paper.

The cremation is done immediately and we hold the ashes until you instruct us as to what vessel you would like the ashes returned in.

Once our service is complete we will phone you to arrange the return of your horses' ashes.

Calico Bag

We can return the ashes to you in a calico bag, you may choose to transfer your horse's ashes into a container you already have or scatter them back to nature.

Ethics

A question many people ask is whether it is their pet's ashes that they will be getting back.

Yes. Nothing is more important and I put my family's name and faces to our service along with my staff who all proudly have their name and photos on our web page as well.

All our staff are animal lovers and have been through something similar to what you are about to.

Why use such a service?

We make a significant investment in our horse's or pet's health during its life because they are an important and much loved member of the family.

When nature takes its inevitable course, owners feel that this member of the family deserves respect like any other.

Many people either agist or lease land, or don't want to leave the horse or pet behind when moving. Many councils prohibit the burial of animals in small lots and some people do not have the physical ability to bury a large pet.

To ease the cost of having a large animal cremated we offer a pre-payment plan, where you can start making regular fortnightly or monthly payments before you need our services. We will give you a special Identification Number for your pet which you can use when making pre-payments and this number will also be with your pet throughout the whole process.

Our advice is to plan ahead for that inevitable final day.

It is a sad and difficult time, and if you have a plan in place, this will help to reduce your stress when the time comes.

We know, we've been through it ourselves.

Village Kid

4th Dec 1980 – 24th April 2012

VILLAGE KID, aka ‘WILLIE’ - Harness Racing Legend, trained by Bill Horn, a butcher by trade.

Lawnswood recently had the privilege of cremating the great legend Village Kid.  At 31 years old Village Kid was both a harness racing legend and a huge personality.

He died at the Hope Valley property with his loving family by his side. He lived out his days with Bill, Norma and family still watching all the 'youngin's' coming through the stable and reminding them he is still the legend.

The Horn Family would like to take a minute and sincerely thank you for the overwhelming support our family has received. Lawnswood were so kind and good.  Nothing can take away the pain, but it certainly made it a little easier to deal with knowing that Willie was taken care of and loved by so many.
